The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you for it. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 127 “What! You build a structure on every height, to laugh at the passers-by?” 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 "And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know. 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 "And gardens and springs. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 your preaching is nothing but ancient legends and we shall not face any torment". 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
