(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 When their brother Hood said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 "So fear Allah and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 "Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 amply provided you with flocks, and children, 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether you preach or be not of those who preach. 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 In this there is evidence (of the Truth), yet most of them do not have any faith. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
