The tribe of Thamud rejected the Messengers. 141 Their brother Salih asked them, "Why do you not fear God? 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 “Will you be left peacefully in these favours over here?” 146 “In gardens and water springs?” 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains? 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 "And follow not the bidding of those who are extravagant,- 151 who spread evil in the land with no reform." 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 you are no different from a mortal like us. So produce a sign if you are truthful." 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 159
