The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear God? 142 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 Will you be left secure in what is here; 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, 151 who corrupt in the earth, and do not reform' 152 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 153 “You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful.” 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her, and then were penitent. 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 159
