The Thamud (people) rejected the messengers. 141 Recall when their brother Salih said to them: "Have you no fear?" 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 "Will ye be left secure, in (the enjoyment of) all that ye have here? 146 “In gardens and water springs?” 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 “And do not follow those who exceed the limits.” 151 who spread evil in the land with no reform." 152 They said: "You are only of those bewitched! 153 "You are but a human being like us. Then bring us a sign if you are of the truthful." 154 He said: (Behold) this she-camel. She hath the right to drink (at the well), and ye have the right to drink, (each) on an appointed day. 155 And touch her not with ill, lest there take hold of you the torment of a Mighty Day. 156 But they hamstrung her, then regretted; 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
