Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 "Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] in the midst of what you have here and now? 146 “In gardens and water springs?” 147 sown fields, and palms with slender spathes? 148 carving comfortable houses out of the mountains? 149 Therefor keep your duty to Allah and obey me, 150 And obey not the command of the prodigal, 151 Who make mischief in the land and do not act aright. 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 You are only a human being like ourselves. Show us a sign, if you are telling the truth." 154 He said: This is a she-camel; she shall have her portion of water, and you have your portion of water on an appointed time; 155 And do not touch her with harm, lest you be seized by the punishment of a terrible day." 156 But they hamstrung her and then regretted it. 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159
