The Thamud accused the messengers of lies. 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 "Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] in the midst of what you have here and now? 146 In gardens and watersprings. 147 sown fields, and palms with slender spathes? 148 "And you carve houses out of mountains with great skill. 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 and do not follow the biddings of those that go to excesses 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful." 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 159
