The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 Their brother Salih asked them, "Why do you not fear God? 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death], 146 In these gardens and these springs, 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, 151 who corrupt in the earth, and do not reform' 152 They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 You are only a human being like ourselves. Show us a sign, if you are telling the truth." 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day. 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 159
