The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, “Do you not fear?” 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 among gardens and fountains, 147 "And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)? 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 “And do not follow those who exceed the limits.” 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 "You are but a human being like us. Then bring us a sign if you are of the truthful." 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 Do not cause her to suffer lest you become subject to the torment of the great day (of Judgment)." 156 But they hamstrung her and then regretted it. 157 So the punishment overtook them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159
