The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 In gardens and springs. 147 and cornfields, and palm-trees laden with fruit -- 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
