Thamud denied the messengers 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 142 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 amidst gardens and springs 147 “And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?” 148 And you hew houses out of the mountains exultingly; 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 "And follow not the bidding of those who are extravagant,- 151 who spread evil in the land with no reform." 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 Thou art but a mortal like us. So bring some token if thou art of the truthful. 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 So the punishment overtook them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 158 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 159
