Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 143 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 In gardens and watersprings. 147 and cornfields and date-palms laden with juicy fruits? 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 So fear Allah, and obey me. 150 do not obey the bidding of those who are given to excesses, 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)." 152 They said: thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 You are naught but a mortal like ourselves; so bring a sign if you are one of the truthful. 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
