The Thamud belied the sent ones 141 Recall when their brother Salih said to them: "Have you no fear?" 142 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 145 “Will you be left peacefully in these favours over here?” 146 In gardens and watersprings. 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 "And you carve houses out of mountains with great skill. 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 who do corruption in the earth, and set not things aright.' 152 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic. 153 You are only a human being like ourselves. Show us a sign, if you are telling the truth." 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
