[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to [one of God's] message-hearers 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear God? 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 and cornfields and date-palms laden with juicy fruits? 148 carving comfortable houses out of the mountains? 149 "Be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me, 150 "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 Replied he: "This she-camel shall have a share of water, and you shall have a share of water, on the days appointed [therefor]; 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159

(1) وقف لازم، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي نقطة وقف. (2) وقف جائز مع الوقف أولى، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال الثلثين. When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
