Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 143 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 "And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)? 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 So fear Allah, and obey me. 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 and do her no harm, lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 156 But they ham-strung her: then did they become full of regrets. 157 And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159
