Thamud denied the messengers 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 143 So fear God and follow me. 144 For this I demand no recompense from you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 "Gardens and Springs, 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 who spread evil in the land with no reform." 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 you are no different from a mortal like us. So produce a sign if you are truthful." 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day. 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 for the suffering [predicted by Salih,] befell them [then and there]. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
