The Thamud accused the messengers of lies. 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 145 Will you be left secure in what is here; 146 amidst the gardens, springs, 147 and cornfields, and palm-trees laden with fruit -- 148 Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains? 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 do not obey the bidding of those who are given to excesses, 151 who corrupt in the earth, and do not reform' 152 They said: thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 Thou art nothing but a mortal like ourselves! Come, then, forward with a token [of thy mission] if thou art a man of truth!" 154 Replied he: "This she-camel shall have a share of water, and you shall have a share of water, on the days appointed [therefor]; 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
