Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you 143 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 "Do you think that you will remain here peacefully forever 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 And corn-fields and palm-trees whereof the spathes are fine? 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 "And follow not the bidding of those who are extravagant,- 151 who spread evil in the land with no reform." 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 “You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful.” 154 He said: This is a she-camel; she shall have her portion of water, and you have your portion of water on an appointed time; 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 159
