(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 Have fear of God and obey me. 144 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains? 149 So fear Allah, and obey me. 150 and do not follow the biddings of those that go to excesses 151 who do corruption in the earth, and set not things aright.' 152 They said: thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her, then regretted; 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159
