The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Saleh said to them: "Will you not take heed?" 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death], 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 "And ye carve houses out of (rocky) mountains with great skill. 149 So fear God and obey me: 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)." 152 They said: "You are only of those bewitched! 153 Thou art but a mortal like us. So bring some token if thou art of the truthful. 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 Do not cause her to suffer lest you become subject to the torment of the great day (of Judgment)." 156 But they hamstrung her, and then were penitent. 157 And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 158 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
