Thamood, belied their Messengers. 141 Their brother Salih asked them, "Why do you not fear God? 142 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 For this I demand no recompense from you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 In gardens and watersprings. 147 And tilled fields and heavy-sheathed palm-trees, 148 And dwellings hewed out of mountains ingeniously? 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 “And do not follow those who exceed the limits.” 151 who spread evil in the land with no reform." 152 Said they: "Thou art but one of the bewitched! 153 “You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful.” 154 He said: yonder is a she-camel; to her a drink, and to you a drink, each on a day known. 155 “And do not touch her with evil intentions for the punishment of the Great Day will seize you.” 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 So the retribution came on them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
