Samood gave the lie to the apostles 141 Their brother Salih asked them, "Why do you not fear God? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death], 146 amidst gardens and springs 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains? 149 Therefor keep your duty to Allah and obey me, 150 And obey not the command of the prodigal, 151 Who make mischief in the land and do not act aright. 152 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 He said: yonder is a she-camel; to her a drink, and to you a drink, each on a day known. 155 And touch her not with ill, lest there take hold of you the torment of a Mighty Day. 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
