The Thamud gave the lie to the Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 143 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 145 "Will you be left secure in that which you have here? 146 amidst gardens and springs 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 do not obey the bidding of those who are given to excesses, 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 He said: (Behold) this she-camel. She hath the right to drink (at the well), and ye have the right to drink, (each) on an appointed day. 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 But they hamstrung her, and then were penitent. 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
