The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 when their brother Salih said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 145 "Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] in the midst of what you have here and now? 146 In these gardens and these springs, 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 carving comfortable houses out of the mountains? 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 And obey not the command of the extravagant. 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 "You are but a human being like us. Then bring us a sign if you are of the truthful." 154 Replied he: "This she-camel shall have a share of water, and you shall have a share of water, on the days appointed [therefor]; 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 But they hamstrung her and so became regretful. 157 And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
