Thamood, belied their Messengers. 141 When their brother Saleh said to them: "Will you not take heed?" 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 and cornfields, and palm-trees laden with fruit -- 148 And you hew houses out of the mountains exultingly; 149 Therefor keep your duty to Allah and obey me, 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 "You are but a human being like us. Then bring us a sign if you are of the truthful." 154 Replied he: "This she-camel shall have a share of water, and you shall have a share of water, on the days appointed [therefor]; 155 Do not touch her with malice so that punishment of a dreadful day seizes you' 156 But they hamstrung her and then regretted it. 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
