Thamood, belied their Messengers. 141 when their brother Salih said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 142 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 143 So fear God and follow me. 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 Will you be left secure in what is here; 146 "In gardens and springs. 147 “And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?” 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 And obey not the command of the prodigal, 151 Who corrupt the land and do not reform it." 152 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 153 Thou art but a mortal like us. So bring some token if thou art of the truthful. 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
