[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to [one of God's] message-hearers 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, “Do you not fear?” 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 So fear God and follow me. 144 For this I demand no recompense from you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death], 146 “In gardens and water springs?” 147 “And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?” 148 "And you carve houses out of mountains with great skill. 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 who corrupt in the earth, and do not reform' 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful." 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 “And do not touch her with evil intentions for the punishment of the Great Day will seize you.” 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
