Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their brother Saleh said to them: "Will you not take heed?" 142 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 sown fields, and palms with slender spathes? 148 Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains? 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 "And do not follow those who exceed the limits." 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 Thou art nothing but a mortal like ourselves! Come, then, forward with a token [of thy mission] if thou art a man of truth!" 154 He said: This is a she-camel; she shall have her portion of water, and you have your portion of water on an appointed time; 155 and do her no harm, lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 159
