The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 So fear God and follow me. 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 In gardens and springs. 147 “And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?” 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 They said, "You are only bewitched and insane. 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 “And do not touch her with evil intentions for the punishment of the Great Day will seize you.” 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159
