Thamood, belied their Messengers. 141 when their brother Salih said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 145 "Do you think that you will remain here peacefully forever 146 "Gardens and Springs, 147 And cornfields and palm-trees having fine spadices? 148 Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains? 149 So fear you God, and obey you me; 150 and do not follow the biddings of those that go to excesses 151 Who make mischief in the land and do not act aright. 152 They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said: yonder is a she-camel; to her a drink, and to you a drink, each on a day known. 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 and torment struck them. In this there is evidence of the Truth, yet many people do not have any faith. 158 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 159
