Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 143 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 “Will you be left peacefully in these favours over here?” 146 amidst the gardens, springs, 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 carving comfortable houses out of the mountains? 149 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend." 152 They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 Thou art but a mortal like us. So bring some token if thou art of the truthful. 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 and do her no harm, lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
