[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to [one of God's] message-hearers 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear God? 142 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 In gardens and springs. 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 So fear you God, and obey you me; 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 Said they: "Thou art but one of the bewitched! 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said, 'This is a she-camel; to her a draught and to you a draught, on a day appointed, 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
