The Thamud accused the messengers of lies. 141 when their brother Salih said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 Within gardens and springs 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 Who corrupt the land and do not reform it." 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 You are only a human being like ourselves. Show us a sign, if you are telling the truth." 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 And touch her not with ill, lest there take hold of you the torment of a Mighty Day. 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 and torment struck them. In this there is evidence of the Truth, yet many people do not have any faith. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
