[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to [one of God's] message-hearers 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, “Do you not fear?” 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 I ask of you no reward. My reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 145 "Do you think that you will remain here peacefully forever 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 sown fields, and palms with slender spathes? 148 carving comfortable houses out of the mountains? 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and reform not." 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they ham-strung her: then did they become full of regrets. 157 and torment struck them. In this there is evidence of the Truth, yet many people do not have any faith. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
