The Thamud gave the lie to the Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 In these gardens and these springs, 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They said: thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 You are naught but a mortal like ourselves; so bring a sign if you are one of the truthful. 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 and do her no harm, lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 156 But they hamstrung her; and on the morrow were repentant, 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
