The tribe of Thamud rejected the Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 Have fear of God and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 145 "Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] in the midst of what you have here and now? 146 "Gardens and Springs, 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 150 "And follow not the bidding of those who are extravagant,- 151 Who make mischief in the land and do not act aright. 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 But they ham-strung her: then did they become full of regrets. 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 159
