(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 When their brother Saleh said to them: "Will you not take heed?" 142 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 143 "So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 "Will you be left secure in that which you have here? 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 “And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?” 148 Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful? 149 So fear Allah, and obey me. 150 do not obey the bidding of those who are given to excesses, 151 Who corrupt the land and do not reform it." 152 They replied: "You are nothing but one of those who are bewitched; 153 Thou art but a mortal like us. So bring some token if thou art of the truthful. 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 And touch her not with ill, lest there take hold of you the torment of a Mighty Day. 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159
