Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 amidst the gardens, springs, 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 "And ye carve houses out of (rocky) mountains with great skill. 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 You are but a human like ourselves. Produce for us a sign, if you are of the truthful' 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 But they hamstrung her, and then were penitent. 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159
