The tribe of Thamud rejected the Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 For this I ask of you no wage; my wage falls only upon the Lord of the Worlds. 145 "Do you think that you will remain here peacefully forever 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains? 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 And do not obey the order of the transgressors, 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 you are no different from a mortal like us. So produce a sign if you are truthful." 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
