The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 Have fear of God and obey me. 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 “And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?” 148 carving comfortable houses out of the mountains? 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful." 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 But they ham-strung her: then did they become full of regrets. 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
