Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 142 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 For this I ask of you no wage; my wage falls only upon the Lord of the Worlds. 145 “Will you be left peacefully in these favours over here?” 146 "In gardens and springs. 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 and that you will [always be able to] hew dwellings out of the mountains with [the same] great skill?" 149 "Be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me, 150 do not obey the bidding of those who are given to excesses, 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth!" 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
