The tribe of Thamud rejected the Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 so fear God and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no hire therefor; MY hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 Do not obey the order of the wasteful, 151 Who make mischief in the land and do not act aright. 152 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 Do not touch her with malice so that punishment of a dreadful day seizes you' 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
