[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to [one of God's] message-hearers 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 145 "Will ye be left secure, in (the enjoyment of) all that ye have here? 146 Within gardens and springs 147 and cornfields and date-palms laden with juicy fruits? 148 Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful? 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 and do not follow the biddings of those that go to excesses 151 who do corruption in the earth, and set not things aright.' 152 They said: "You are only of those bewitched! 153 “You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful.” 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159
