The people of Lot cried lies to the Envoys 160 Behold, their brother Lut said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 161 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 162 So fear Allah, and obey me. 163 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the lord of the Worlds. 164 Do you, in the world, want to have carnal relations with males 165 And leave what your Lord has created for you as mates? But you are a people transgressing." 166 They said: "O Lot! If you do not desist, you will be one of those expelled (from our towns)." 167 He said, "Indeed, I am, toward your deed, of those who detest [it]. 168 My Lord, save me and my family from [the consequence of] what they do." 169 So We saved him and his whole family 170 Except an old woman who lingered behind. 171 Then We utterly destroyed the others. 172 And We rained on them a rain (of torment). And how evil was the rain of those who had been warned. 173 Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 174 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 175

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
