Then the people of Lot rejected the messengers. 160 when their brother Lot said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 161 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 162 so fear you God, and obey you me. 163 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 164 What, do you come to the males of the world, 165 And leave what your Lord has created for you of your wives? Nay, you are a people exceeding limits. 166 'Lot' they replied, 'if you do not desist, you shall be thrown out' 167 He said: verily I am of those who abhor your work. 168 My Lord, save me and my family from [the consequence of] what they do." 169 So We saved him and his family, all, 170 Except an old woman, among those who remained behind. 171 Thereafter We annihilated the rest. 172 by pouring upon them a terrible shower of rain. How evil was the rain for those who had been warned! 173 Verily in this was a sign, but most of them do not believe. 174 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 175
