[AND] the people of Lot gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 160 When their brother Lot said to them, "Will you not fear God? 161 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 162 "So fear Allah and obey me. 163 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 164 What! do you come to the males from among the creatures 165 And leave the wives your Lord created for you? Nay, but ye are froward folk. 166 They said, 'If thou givest not over, Lot, thou shalt assuredly be one of the expelled.' 167 He said: verily I am of those who abhor your work. 168 My Lord, deliver me and my family from their wicked deeds." 169 So We saved him and his household, every one, 170 all but an old woman, who was among those that stayed behind; 171 Then We destroyed the others. 172 And We rained on them a rain. So ill was the rain on those warned? 173 Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 174 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 175
