The dwellers of the thicket gave the lie to the apostles. 176 When Shu'aib said to them: "Will you not take heed? 177 I am for you a faithful Messenger, so fear you God, and obey you me. 178 "So fear Allah and obey me. 179 And I ask of you no hire therefor; and my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 180 ۞ Give full measure and do not cheat; 181 "And weigh with the true and straight balance. 182 "And withhold not things justly due to men, nor do evil in the land, working mischief. 183 Fear He who created you, and the generations of the ancient' 184 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 185 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us, and indeed we think thou art a liar! 186 Therefore cause a portion of the heaven to come down upon us, if you are one of the truthful. 187 Answered [Shu'ayb]: "My Sustainer knows fully well what you are doing." 188 In response they denied him – therefore the punishment of the day of the tent* seized them; that was indeed a punishment of a Great Day. (The clouds formed a tent and rained fire upon them). 189 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not Muslims. 190 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 191
