[AND] the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan] gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 176 When Shu'ayb said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 177 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 178 I ask of you no wage for this; 179 I ask of you no reward for this. My reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 180 ۞ Fill up the measure, and be not cheaters, 181 weigh with an even balance 182 and do not defraud people in their property or spread evil in the land. 183 And keep your duty unto Him Who created you and the generations of the men of old. 184 They replied, "You are bewitched. 185 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; indeed, we think that thou art one of the liars. 186 “Therefore cause a part of the sky to fall upon us, if you are of the truthful.” 187 He said, "My Lord knows all that you do." 188 They rejected him and then the torment of the gloomy day struck them. It was certainly a great torment. 189 Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 190 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 191
