[AND] the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan] gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 176 when their brother Shu'ayb said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 177 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 178 So fear Allah, and obey me. 179 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage is only with the Lord of the Worlds. 180 ۞ Give full measure and do not cheat; 181 “And weigh with a proper balance.” 182 and do not deprive people of what is rightfully theirs; and do not act wickedly on earth by spreading corruption, 183 And guard against (the punishment of) Him who created you and the former nations. 184 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 185 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; indeed, we think that thou art one of the liars. 186 So cause a piece of the sky to fall upon us if you are truthful." 187 Answered [Shu'ayb]: "My Sustainer knows fully well what you are doing." 188 But they called him a liar, so the punishment of the day of covering overtook them; surely it was the punishment of a grievous day. 189 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 190 your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 191
