The dwellers in the wood (of Midian) denied the messengers (of Allah), 176 Recall, when Shuayb said to them: "Have you no fear? 177 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 178 I ask of you no wage for this; 179 And I ask of you no hire therefor; and my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 180 ۞ Fill up the measure, and be not cheaters, 181 Weigh on an even balance. 182 and diminish not the goods of the people, and do not mischief in the earth, working corruption. 183 And fear Him who created you and all the earlier people." 184 They replied, "You are bewitched. 185 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us, and indeed we think thou art a liar! 186 Therefore cause a portion of the heaven to come down upon us, if you are one of the truthful. 187 He said, "My Lord has full knowledge of all your actions." 188 They rejected him, and then had to suffer the punishment of a day of overshadowing gloom. That was indeed the punishment of an awful day. 189 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 190 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 191
